And the weird commercial where his wife spoke for him while he stood silently by? Yet by the time of the last debate, he performed well enough (far differently than earlier incidents) and still does at times. While dementia patients can have lucid times, they can't do it on cue, as for a debate or speech. I think it's likely that his handlers hid an aneurysm. And yes, he could also have some encroaching dementia as well.
Typically aneurysms don't typically present symptoms unless they're either quite large, or rupture. Rupturing is the point where they're fatal. As we can tell he hasn't been rushed to hospital and hasn't died, and still presents with symptomology, and if it was a large aneurysm it would have been most likely treated or reduced by now.
As you say, dementia does have those moments and he has been a Senator for a long time so it would be 'muscle memory' as it were - dementia patients who learned piano in childhood onwards can still play piano given it is a deeply embedded memory.
The arguments I've seen for Biden's period of lucidity is either that he's feigning dementia to avoid being charged with a terrible crime (namely, child abuse, see the Ashley diary), or he has body doubles.
I'm not sure he's feigning it given he's suffered physical injuries falling over (such as the bike collapse), and people would only feign it when they think cameras/people are watching, but even when 'off' camera he is still doing it.
As for body doubles it is a hard claim to assess given no images give clear resolution. His lucidity period isn't unusual for dementia patients.
