It is, indeed, getting very scary up here. The bill also contains an ex post facto clause. So if you ever said anything on the internet and they find it hateful....

It's a crazy world. Bad enough down here in the US, but I feel for freedom-minded Canadians. I considered myself a liberal years back, but have to wonder what I was thinking. As a fantasy writer, I've seen that many authors are easily tricked into believing whatever they are told. This is strange to me when I've always considered writers to be thinkers. Thinking through the ramifications of what these anti-freedom policies will lead to (like a real-world 1984) should be right up their alley, and yet...

I suppose in the future they will use some sort of brain implant to access the supposedly criminal thoughts, mostly of political dissidents.

I liked everything except the apparent implication that it's a bad idea to decriminalize drugs. Just as alcohol prohibition in America resulted in people dying from adulterated and fake booze, and in the trade in alcohol being run by violent criminals, so too the war on drugs results in people dying from adulterated and fake product, and in the trade in drugs being run by violent criminals.
