Previously we wrote about Russia’s low-key threat to Israel, where Russia remarked to Israel that:
[…] if you start supplying drones to Ukraine, Iran will have new modern air defense systems […]
Russia in May fired at one of the Israeli jets over Syria, which Israel downplayed on the 26th July, calling it a “one-off incident”:
Israel said on Tuesday that its military jets came under Russian anti-aircraft fire over Syria in May but they missed their target, describing the confrontation as a "one-off incident".
Now this might not seem connected, but why did Israel wait for 2 months before making this disclosure? Obviously, the connection here is air defense systems (or anti-aircraft systems),.
This is Israel’s very subtle response to Russia: ‘go ahead, your anti-air defences don’t work anyway, you tried to shoot our jets down and missed’. There’s also another side to the wording: “one-off incident”, where Israel are trying to suggest Russia wasn’t intentional in their response.
This seems kinda PR-ish, in that Israel are trying to downplay evidence of a rift between themselves and Russia in the public sphere. These developments could get interesting.
