Previously on The Daily Beagle, given the absence of answers from the US government, answered if a war involving Taiwan and China was likely to happen. In short summary: China has good strategic reason to go to war at this time given the amount of western resources currently being spent in Ukraine leaving it overstretched.
We’re starting to see the red flags emerge. Chinese outlet Global Times claims that…
PLA’s post ‘Preparing for war’ draws wide support from netizens ahead of Army Day
Given this is China who don’t tolerate dissent, it’s hard to say how accurate this is, however the messaging from the Chinese government is clear: ‘our people support preparations for war’. Red flag.
As for popularity with Chinese citizens? That is debateable.
[…] generated over 300,000 thumbs-up in 12 hours on Friday
Certainly, to anyone with a small grouping, 300,000 thumbs-up seems impressive, but if you were to compare it to a single video by MrBeast starving himself, you’d find at time of writing it has 2.3 million likes. Of course, one can raise the classic questions of bots or people trying to appease their social credit score in China, as Rupert Murdoch owned Fox News notes.
Regardless of whether you think it’s staged, like us, or real, the messaging is clear: ‘We’re supported to go to war. We have the popular imperative.’
The rhetoric coming out of China isn’t lightweight either. As noted by ZeroHedge, there is now talk by Chinese-government affilated media of trying to shoot down US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s plane:
Such a tweet has since been removed by Twitter for violating their rules, however an archived copy is available here.
Hu Xijin, the tweet’s author, is the former editor for the Global Times, and thus has close ties to what the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) are thinking in regards to Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.
Indeed, the Global Times has been quite vocal, although most of their articles stop short of calling for the shooting down of a plane. One article includes ‘escorting’ Pelosi’s plane, declaring exclusion zones, holding military drills around the waters of the island, holding live fire exercises, firing missiles around the island, and other signs of loud protestations. Not quite the full declaration of war.
This situation is different though, unlike most other visits to Taiwan, it is earmarked by the US deploying their carrier fleet alongside Pelosi. That’s quite a lot of firepower for a state visit. Such actions alarmed the Socialist (a variant of Communism) World Socialist Web Site, who expressed dismay before reaching for the ‘everyone I don't like is fascist’ beating stick.
Under these conditions, both Democrats and Republicans in the US Congress, as well as the American corporate media, have urged Pelosi to travel to Taiwan. These figures include prominent ex-generals and members of Donald Trump’s fascistic Republican leadership.
I can assure you, former SAG-AFTRA wrestlemania actor Donald Trump was one of the least “fascistic” leaders out there, unless you count financing the mRNA shots under Operation Warp Speed.
It is interesting though that the US military moves have Communist and Socialist groups alarmed. Historically, in 2021, The Hill reported 53 percent of Americans would back sending US troops to Taiwan in the event of a war with China, a sentiment which has likely changed in light of the Ukraine war.
There have been a spattering of internet commentators declaring a refusal to fight for the corrupt US government, even if it is to aid Taiwan against the actual, evident tyranny of China, although their actual size is unknown, given the discontent with governments in general, it is bound to be sizeable.
What is particularly curious is, as reported by former Andrew Breitbart’s… Breitbart, their senior contributor Peter Schweizer, who authored the book “Red-Handed: How American Elites Get Rich Helping China Win”, commented Nancy Pelosi:
[…] went soft from her previous anti-Chinese Communist Party position after “her husband and son started seeking deals in Beijing.”
The question is, why would Pelosi, whose family endorses Chinese businesses, want to risk provoking a war between China and America? Well, in truth, most of Nancy Pelosi’s husband - Paul Pelosi - recent stock picks were for American businesses.
For example her husband, Paul Pelosi, bought $5 million in chip (semiconductors, microchips) stocks back in June, before the US voted on a subsidies bill for American chip manufacturing, called the CHIPS and Science Act (formerly “CHIPS & Innovation Act of 2022”). The act focused American government financing in American chip manufacturing in order to compete with Chinese businesses.
The media and public accused both Nancy and Paul Pelosi of insider trading, with Nancy Pelosi denying she gives her husband any information, to which Twitter users expressed disbelief in her claims. Feeling the heat from such attention, Pelosi’s husband sold the $5 million in stock prior to the bill being voted on, with a sharp loss of $341,365. This coincides with a plan by Congress to ban insider stock trading by Congressional members, and isn’t likely Paul experiencing a guilty conscience.
That said, the CHIPS and Science Act, contrary to the name, is primarily a US military bill, quoting:
CHIPS for America Defense Fund: $2 billion for the DoD [Department of Defense] to implement the Microelectronics Commons, a national network for onshore, university-based prototyping, lab-to-fab transition of semiconductor technologies—including DoD-unique applications—and semiconductor workforce training.
Which means, the more military involvement, the more profits for semiconductor (chip) manufacturing there is, and what better way than to spark a war with another country?
This follows on from the COMPETES Act in early 2022. What’s interesting is this isn’t what the original bill was called. In 2021, it was originally called Bioeconomy Research and Development Act of 2021. Here’s the original description:
This bill directs the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) to implement a National Engineering Biology Research and Development Initiative to advance societal well-being, national security, sustainability, and economic productivity and competitiveness. Among other activities, the initiative must include sustained support for research centers, individual investigators, technologies, and training. […]
Sounds a bit like bioweapons, especially with the line about “national security”. It’s more evident if you dig into the amendments for the COMPETES Act 2022, where one amendment explicitly says that it:
Authorizes the President to use military force for the specific purpose of securing and protecting Taiwan against armed attack from the People's Republic of China. Reinforces the U.S.-Taiwan relationship and strengthens Taiwan’s ability to resist Communist China’s aggressive policies and military actions.
A clear signal of war intent on the US’ behalf if there ever was one.
There are other amendments within the COMPETES Act, including: prohibiting the Act financing the Wuhan Institute of Virology, denying financing to any organisations with ties to the CCP’s Confucius Institute, tackling drug smuggling Fentanyl by China into the US and more. Most of these are reasonable.
So Pelosi’s family might have backed the financial horse of the CCP, but apparently the lure of embezzlement of US taxpayers’ funds is too great, and they sense where the wind is blowing. No good having Chinese funds if the US is signalling a war stance with China, or you’ll get hit with a ‘Trading With The Enemy’ style act.
Pelosi knows which way the wind is blowing, and it is blowing towards Taiwan.
