Update Notice: New developments below.
The Daily Beagle, in our effort to expand, has been reaching out on relatively free speech social media network Gab.
Given Substack is independent journalism, we are, after all, a small business, and we do use Gab, so by definition we are a ‘Small Business Owner of Gab’. We opted to join the Small Business Owners of Gab group with over 25.1k members at time of writing, and raise awareness of our Substack. Seemed reasonable enough.
But we ultimately got censored - the post moderated and our membership removed - before we even had a chance to post:
The group is moderated by @Nullifyfedlaws:
We tried to reach out to ask why we got removed, but we were met with a stony silence:
We didn’t post anything controversial, said that we try to cover topics other media outlets wouldn’t, and that we have Daily Roundups using a variety of sources.
And before you say journalism isn’t a business, Nullifyfedlaws was more than happy to promote a bitcoin magazine in the same group (there’s also plenty of people offering freelance journalism work in the group too, which is why we applied):
Curious that. Guess he isn’t a fan of independent journalism or competition. In contrast, Businesses of Gab more than happily accepted our post, which embodies the true spirit of Free Speech and even free market values:
Story Updates:
@Nullifyfedlaws got in touch after we published the story, and reports he doesn’t remember removing us:
He has reported it was an accident and had us confused with a spambot:
We’re fairly vocal as ‘spambots’ go. We’re happy to see a positive discussion, although we currently cannot join the group as the ban appears to still be in-place (bottom left corner, ‘group join fail’).
Check out our new account at Gab here and help us spread the word against the rampant censorship, and raise awareness.
And if you like my work, be sure to support it by sharing the article link with other people, subscribing or even becoming a supporter. Thank you!
